Spring may have arrived
March 11th, 2007
Weather was finally warm here yesterday, almost made it to 70. Before starting work, I walked around with my camera:
Here’s two shots of the carport and the Hauliday Inn, one from the garage flat where we’re living and the other from the driveway
Here’s Bussipoo, the 1979 Bluebird Wanderlodge. Fuzzy is painting it and we’re going to sell it when it’s finished
Here’s the water heater that Fuzzy just installed
And just some general shots around the house, some where I’ve already cleaned and some where I haven’t yet
Weekends aren’t as important now.
March 10th, 2007
Very nice here today, temps are in the springtime range. I’m going to be working outside in the yard today, getting rid of leaves and branches that fell during the winter. It’s snake season so I’ll keep my camera handy. I want to post a snake picture in the Australian snake thread.
Should take about a week, I’ve already cleared around the house.
Fuzzy is going to work outside today too, but I think he may be painting bussipoo, aka big ugly. I’ve posted pictures of it before, that is his 1979 Bluebird Wanderlodge. He’s doing some cosmetic work so we can sell it on Ebay.
Here’s a before picture of Bussipoo, he has since sanded and primed the body:
RV Show was a waste of time and money
March 9th, 2007
There were no high end motor coaches to drool over.
Not even any AirStream trailers.
Fuzzy and I are both really itching to have this completed. I want to get back in the Hauliday Inn and head west, never to return. Nothing wrong with Virginia, but it just doesn’t feel like home, we’ve spent too much time out west.
I’m getting addicted to the smell of Murphy’s Wood Oil soap.
Comments?
March 9th, 2007
Thanks Martin, I didn’t realize there were any comments. The way the tree service people screwed up was to cut the trees into logs too long for the trash truck to pick up. The logs they put on the curb were around 10 feet long, much too long for the trash truck. We had to pay extra for a special truck to come out and remove the logs.
Scotty, I thought the blue tape on the LY MCSC looked cool too. Here’s a picture of it at the end of the trip, after getting hit with diesel truck poo for over 3,000 miles:
Yesterday, Fuzzy finished the water heater install, including venting and running the new gas line. The big house has hot water again! We’re using the shower at the apartment, so it wasn’t a hardship but it’s nice that the dishwasher and clothes washer have hot water again. I did another gross out job, cleaning the upstairs toilet. I also cleaned three of the upstairs bedrooms and did wood treatment in that area too.
Worst job I’ve done so far was cleaning up the plastic in the upper swamp. Words can’t say why that is gross but I’ll try. This was the plastic sheet that was under the house during the hurricane in 2003. The crawl space under the house flooded so we had it removed and replaced. The contractor left the old plastic in the upper swamp where it remained. I finally got up the nerve to pull it out, knowing I was going to grab a snake in that nasty muck. It had that good, decaying organic smell too, and I was covered in muck and swamp smell when I finished. I didn’t look at the lumps in the plastic, from the smell I knew there were dead critters in there. Yuck!
We’re taking a break from all the work today. The Hampton Convention Center has an RV show today, we’re going to go check out the new motorcoaches.
Glimmer at the end of the tunnel?
March 8th, 2007
Things are going well. Fuzzy finished the water heater install yesterday. I did a few errands and some cleaning, the progress is getting noticeable.
Today is more cleaning, I’m amazed at how much is needed! We have a lot of clutter but I didn’t realize how much dirt hid beneath the clutter. We’re doing wall and paint repair today and tomorrow to prepare for new carpet installation next week. Three weeks till we list!
Pictures are nice, here’s some pictures where we had two trees removed last year.
Cold but beautiful Tuesday morning!
March 6th, 2007
We moved out of the swamp house into the garage apartment on Sunday, now it’s a bit difficult to cook. Fuzzy thinks it will make it easier to get the house ready.
The washer isn’t broken after all! That’s great, seems it runs hot water to dissolve the soap first. Hot water is currently turned off while Fuzzy upgrades the water heater. So the washer works, it was just alarming when the water didn’t flow from the start.
Yesterday was major yard clean up, today is finish the water heater install and clean more of the house. I’ll have to start posting pictures of the progress here.
In the mean time, here’s a picture of his cabrio packed to move:
Irritations when you’re on a time limit
March 6th, 2007
About a week ago, we paid a local contractor to clear 22 trees that were either leaning or dead. He brought a team of guys with chainsaws, they cleared the trees and moved large chunks of wood to the street. Today, we were contacted by the city because the contractors didn’t do the job right. Eh, can’t trust a contractor to do a job right, can you?
As an evening treat, the washing machine is making clicking sounds and won’t wash clothes. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
Hello!
March 4th, 2007
Whew!
Stopping for a minute to catch my breath, I never knew retirement was so much work!
This is like telling a story starting in the middle. The fuzzy hubby and I both accepted an early retirement offer at the beginning of the year and it’s been work work work ever since. We’re selling our home in Virginia and moving to our new home in Las Vegas.
This is only a short break so now back to work, I’ll tell more of the story later.
